Luna Dreamland
A hand-drawn map of Luna Dreamland and all its dreamy places

A tiny picture book

Luna Dreamland

Six little stories about Kiki, Luna the dream-cat, and Pip the tiny star — and one small journey across the whole of Luna Dreamland.

Kiki and Luna in a field of giant dandelions under a bright sky

Story one

The Cloud Garden

One morning, Kiki woke up in the Cloud Garden, where the dandelions grow as tall as trees. Luna was already awake, watching the seeds drift past on the wind. “Today,” said Luna, “we follow the seeds. Wherever they land, that is where our story begins.”

Kiki in starry pajamas and Luna watching the stars on Star Field

Story two

The Star Field

The seeds led them to the Star Field, where a tiny star had tumbled out of the night sky. His name was Pip, and he twinkled whenever he laughed. “I am not lost,” said Pip. “I was only waiting for someone to find me.”

Kiki in a kimono under falling cherry blossoms on Sakura Hill

Story three

Sakura Hill

On Sakura Hill, the wind carried pink petals over the grass like slow, gentle snow. Kiki spread out a blanket, Luna chased exactly one petal, and Pip tried to catch all the rest. They had plum juice and rice cakes, and nobody hurried, not even a little.

Kiki and Luna reading together in the Star Library

Story four

The Star Library

In the Star Library, every book holds a dream that somebody once dreamed. Luna chose a book about the sea, and Pip found one with his own picture inside. “That one is tomorrow’s dream,” whispered the librarian stars. “No peeking.”

Kiki with a parasol crossing the Rainbow Bridge at dusk

Story five

The Rainbow Bridge

At dusk they came to the Rainbow Bridge, which only appears when the day is almost over. Pip crossed first, because he was the bravest about heights. From the middle of the bridge, the whole of Luna Dreamland looked small, and kind, and close enough to hold.

Kiki and Luna resting by Moon Lake under a full moon

Story six

Moon Lake

Last of all, they reached Moon Lake, where the moon keeps her reflection. Kiki dipped her toes in the silver water, and Luna finally fell asleep. “Goodnight, garden. Goodnight, stars,” said Pip — and one by one, the sky tucked them all in.

The end

Sweet dreams

Thank you for reading. Luna Dreamland is still awake, though — you can leave a star of your own on the Star Wall, or go and find Pip hiding in the sky.
